Karen believes the role of an education system is to help support a child to develop good character, independence, and a strong sense of self in order to help them become a better world citizen. Her passions include: teaching about world cultures, history, literature, singing, and theater; singing beautiful music; attending classical musical events; traveling both nationwide and abroad; hiking, camping, and being in the beauty of nature; advocating for the environment, and human and animal rights; and spending time with my cats, friends, and family.

Joanie is passionate of textiles of any kind; sewing, quilting, and weaving as well stringed instruments including the piano, cell, guitar and mandolin. When Joanie is not pursuing her passions, she is doing a lot of home remodeling and repairing. Joanie thinks it seems like she has had skinned knuckles more often than not lately.
Joanie believes children should come to school to live and learn in a community which gives them guided experiences that foster their capacity to contribute to society and grow into happy, inquisitive adults.
